Consulting is a professional advice for the benefit of client. The consulting word is not new. From ancient time, the master or the teacher who had perfect knowledge started the work of consulting. His consultation was not only with the education for his pupils. But he wanted to develop full personality of his pupils. The time had slowly changed. After developing the area of the business .Work of client became complicated. So some professional adviser of consultant came into existence. They gave specific advice in there area of economy, finance, marketing and accounting and obtain fee for this work. They were expert in their field. For example if a finance consultant had to give any consultation to his client. He utilized not only his efficiency in the field of finance but gave his creative idea for solving the problem of his client. In my word this is the history of consulting. In the last few decades the environment in which organizations function has also become increasingly complex .The businessmen are no longer able to evaluate all the aspects relevant to a decision on the basis of personal experience or to predict the outcome of a given course of action from intuition alone. So the need for some systematic means of dealing with complex problems has led to a growing interest in analytical consulting framework for decision making that is broadly termed management consulting.
Because consultation is only given by expert in the field. History of consulting work can not be divided in different division of time but if we talk on the professional consultation or management consultation.
Historical point in consulting works
· The first management consulting firm was Arthur D. Little, founded in 1886 by the MIT professor of the same name.
· President William McKinley's closest political advisor Mark Hanna is sometimes described as the first political consultant. In California in the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, Whitaker and Baxter established and grew the first true consulting firm
· Luca Pacioli (1445 - 1517), also known as Friar Luca dal Borgo, is credited for the "birth" of accounting.
· Horwath Asia Pacific became the first international hotel and tourism consultancy firm to formally establish its presence in China, opening its first representative office in Beijing in December 2002. Horwath Asia Pacific was established in Asia in 1987 to oversee all hotel and tourism consulting operations of Horwath International in Asia.
So, above article I tried to make understand the basic history of consulting work.
What is a consultant
All type advisers are called consultant. They provide his consulting services. A consultant is responsible to give not only advice but he also responsible for providing new idea of working under given condition. In other words , an expert who charges a fee for providing advice or services in a particular field Consulting work can be started by individual or by a firm or by a company. He is perfect in his field or we can say that he is the master of his field. They can serve in the field of computer, management, legal, finance, accounting, marketing, personnel management. He does an independent contract with his client for providing consulting services. His consulting services are precious to client. I can easily say that with the advice of the consultant, the costs of clients are surely decreased.
Different consultants have different duties.
For example
(1) If you are educational consultant then your duty is to present workshops to educators, government departments and corporate bodies to assist with thinking strategies for the classroom, staff meetings, staff planning days, team teaching, seminars.
(2) If you are accounting consultant then your main duty is to tell about correctness and consistency of client’s final accounts .He must see the international Accounting standards Board’ s published consultation paper on profit and loss account and balance sheet . So that final account can reliable under international accounting standard.
(3) If you are Environmental Consultants then your main duty is to provide high quality ecological reports and surveys. They provide the full range of environmental services including:
Flora and Fauna Surveys
Bushland Management Planning (BMP)
Environmental Impact Reports
Threatened Species Assessments
Expert Witness at Land and Environment Court
(4.) The human resources consultant provides human resources to small to mid-sized organizations. He helps in analysis and implementation of HRIS systems, benefits programs analysis and recommendations, HR violations investigations including sexual harassment, employee coaching and development programs and much more.
